Muscatine-first pilot in planning
Every dollar has a hometown.
MainStreet Million turns the local spending people already do into a shared community challenge, with a goal of reaching $1 million in verified local purchases. Hometown Showdown is shaping a Muscatine-first pilot.
Early-stage concept. The challenge and receipt tools are not live yet.

Shared reporting
Planned
One hometown. One shared goal.
A proposed 30-day local spending challenge, built with the community.
01 / The challenge
From receipt to hometown momentum.
The idea is simple: make everyday local purchases count toward something the whole community can see and celebrate—without asking anyone to spend beyond their normal budget.
Planned ways to take part
Snap a paper receipt · Upload an image or PDF · Forward an email receipt · Scan a participating merchant QR code
Snap a local receipt
The planned challenge would accept a receipt photo, saved image or PDF, forwarded email receipt, or participating merchant QR scan.
Verify before it counts
Receipt checks are planned to identify the merchant, date, and amount, confirm eligibility, and flag duplicate submissions.
Build a shared goal
Eligible, verified purchases would contribute to Muscatine's proposed $1 million community challenge goal.
Share only if you choose
Residents could celebrate milestones, invite friends, and join family or workplace leaderboards—with sharing kept opt-in.
For residents
Celebrate where you already spend.
Keep your routine. The planned challenge makes it easier to recognize local purchases, earn points, and cheer on your hometown.
Privacy is a design requirement: receipts and payment details stay private, and personal spending totals are shared only by choice.
Potential badges, sponsor-funded rewards, and friendly individual, family, and workplace leaderboards.
02 / For community partners
A campaign your community can measure together.
Chambers, cities, economic development teams, and local sponsors could use MainStreet Million to bring residents and merchants around a shared goal.
Bring the local team together. Recruit businesses, invite residents, and make participation visible across the community.
See the campaign in aggregate. Planned community reporting would track verified eligible spending and merchant participation while separating tracked purchases from genuinely new economic activity.
Celebrate milestones responsibly. Local partners and sponsors could support rewards or a citywide celebration as the challenge grows.
03 / Start in Muscatine
One hometown at a time.
Muscatine is the proposed founding community: a place to shape the experience with local residents, merchants, and organizers before taking the model elsewhere.
Build & recruit
Shape the prototype and invite local businesses and community partners.
Run the challenge
Work toward a proposed 30-day spending challenge with clear participation rules.
Report & learn
Gather merchant feedback and share measured results before expanding.
A clear next step
Help shape the Muscatine pilot.
The pilot is still being planned. Residents, merchants, sponsors, and community organizers can start a conversation with the team.
The $1 million figure is a proposed community goal, not a spending result. Any tracked purchases would be reported separately from new economic activity.
